What to Expect in Your First Energy Session With Me

If you have never booked an energy session before, I want you to know something right away: you do not need to know anything, believe anything in particular, or show up “doing it right.” You just need to show up as you are. Every session I offer, whether it is tapping, smudging, a card reading, a moon circle, or a guided meditation - starts in the exact same place: with you, and whatever you are carrying right now.

This post walks you through exactly what happens in a first session with me, from the very first question I ask to the moment we close the circle. Think of it as your first-timer’s guide, come back to it any time you have a “wait, what happens again?” moment before we meet.

How I Get to Know You First

Before any tools come out, we talk. Every session opens with a short conversation where I ask what is going on for you: what feels heavy, what you are hoping to release, what you are hoping to call in, or what you are simply curious about. This is the part that actually shapes the session, I am not running you through a script. I am listening for what you need, and then I build the rest of our time together around that.

If you are not sure what you need, that is more than okay. “I just know something feels off” or “I want to feel lighter” is plenty to start with. And, “I am just curious and have always wanted to experience this type of work”, is also a great reason to book with me.

Naming the feeling is often the first real shift of the session.

The Offerings: What Each Session Includes

Tapping (EFT & TFT)

We focus on one specific worry, memory, or stuck pattern, and use gentle tapping on a sequence of acupressure points while you stay with that feeling out loud. It is simple to learn in the very first round, and you leave with a tool you can keep using on your own between sessions. Tapping works well over Zoom or in person, and for anything with real depth to it, I usually recommend a short series of sessions rather than a single session, as this allows you to go deeper into the root of what you are trying to release.

Smudging (Saging Ceremony)

This one is about your space rather than your body. I move room by room with sacred smoke, typically white sage and/or palo santo, clearing out stagnant or heavy energy, then close by inviting in the energy you actually want living there. This is an in-person service since I am working directly with your home or workspace. I always bring an altar to set intention around, and a place to magnify the energies you want to feel in your home.

Card Reading (Tarot & Oracle)

We start with what is on your mind or what you are seeking clarity on, and I read intuitively from either a tarot or oracle deck, whichever fits the question. Tarot decks carry seventy-eight cards and centuries of layered symbolism, which makes them wonderful for nuanced questions or timing. Oracle decks are simpler and more direct, many even print the message right on the card, which makes them a lovely, approachable starting point if this is your first reading. Readings can be done over Zoom, in person, or added onto another energy healing session.

Moon Circle (Individual or Group)

Moon circles are ceremony built around the energy of the Full or New Moon. We open in a candle-lit, intentionally created sacred space, ground together, and then move into the work of the ceremony: releasing what no longer serves you at the Full Moon, or setting clear intentions for what you want to call in at the New Moon. Group circles bring a beautiful, amplified collective energy; individual ceremonies are fully personalized to whatever you are moving through right now.

Guided Meditation

Drawing on my training in meditation and Primordial Sound Meditation, I guide you into a state of deep rest tailored to what you need that day - grounding, release, clarity, or simply quiet. No meditation experience is required, and you do not need to “be good at” sitting still for this to work.

The Tools I Work With (and When)

People often ask which tools show up in a session, so here is the honest answer: it depends on what we are doing together, but here is how I typically use each one.

  • Crystals: I keep a small, rotating collection on the altar or nearby during moon circles, meditations, and sometimes tapping sessions, choosing stones that match the intention of the day - grounding, clarity, protection, or opening.

  • Palo santo & sage: These are my go-to opening tools. Palo santo (“holy wood”) is native to South America and has been used by Indigenous communities there for centuries to clear space and invite in good energy; white sage carries a similar role in smudging traditions. I use one or both to open smudging sessions and moon circles.

  • Koshi chimes: These wind chimes were designed in southern France and are tuned to represent the four elements. I use their gentle tone to mark the beginning or end of a meditation or moon circle - a soft signal that tells your body “we are starting” or “we are coming back.” In a saging session I will use them to raise the vibration of your space after I have cleansed it and removed any stuck or unwanted energy.

  • Tibetan singing bowl: Singing bowls have roots in the Himalayan region and a long history in Tibetan Buddhist meditation and prayer practice. I most often use the bowl to close a guided meditation or moon circle, its tone gives you something gentle to follow back into the room. A 2023 research review found singing bowl sessions were associated with improved mental and emotional well-being in the studies examined, which lines up with how grounding people tend to find the sound.

  • Fire ceremony: This is central to Full Moon circles in particular. You write down what you are ready to release - fears, limiting beliefs, things you are simply done carrying - and we burn those pages together in a fire bowl as a symbolic act of letting go.

  • Meditation music: Soft instrumental music plays in the background during guided meditations and many tapping sessions, chosen to support whatever we are working on that day, sometimes layered with live chimes or the singing bowl.

Not every tool appears in every session, a Zoom tapping session will sound different than an in-person moon circle, and that is exactly how it should be. The tools serve the session, not the other way around.

How a Session Actually Flows, Start to Finish

1. We talk first. What is going on, what you want to feel different, what brought you here today.

2. We open with intention. Depending on the session, this might be a grounding breath, a cleansing with sage or palo santo, or a chime marking the start of stillness.

3. We do the work. This is the heart of the session - the tapping rounds, the reading, the ceremony, or the meditation itself - fully shaped around what you shared at the start.

4. We close with intention. Often with the singing bowl, a moment of gratitude, or simply naming out loud what shifted.

5. We bring it back to you. Before we end, we connect whatever came up directly back to what you walked in with, and talk through one small, doable next step you can carry forward.

Frequently Asked Questions for First-Timers

Do I need any experience with energy work, meditation, or tarot before booking?

Not at all. Every session is built to meet you exactly where you are, whether this is your very first time or your fiftieth.

What should I wear or bring?

Just comfortable clothing. A journal is welcome but never required, I will guide you through everything in real time.

Can sessions be done over Zoom?

Tapping, card readings, and guided meditations can all be done virtually or in person. Smudging happens in person since I am clearing your actual space, and moon circles are typically held in person so we can share the ceremony together.

Is this tied to a specific religion?

No. I draw from many traditions and practices, and sessions are open to absolutely anyone, regardless of background or belief.

How many sessions will I need?

Many offerings, like card readings, meditations, and moon circles, are complete in a single session. Tapping often benefits from a short series if we are working through something with real depth, we will talk about what makes sense for you.

What if I don't feel anything right away?

Completely normal, and not a sign that anything went wrong. Shifts sometimes show up later that day, or even a few days on. Be gentle with yourself either way.

How do I know which session is right for me?

If you are not sure, just reach out and tell me what is going on — I will help you choose. You can also read more about each offering on my Energy page.

How do I book, and what does it cost?
